As we approach the end of 2022, the NFT hype is not even remotely removed. NFTs, including cat memes, pixelated monkeys, popular NFT collections such as the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and many more continue to attract investors and collectors.

We’ve compiled a list of the most expensive NFTs bought in 2022 and the price everyone paid to own a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

10. Cryptopunk #3100

The NFT that just made the list is CryptoPunk #3100, which sold for $7.6 million. Only 450 other punks have headbands, making this NFT a rarity.

9. Cryptopunk #5577

This cowboy hat token was purchased by Compound founder Robert Leshner for $7.7 million. Leshner announced this purchase with a “Yeehaw” tweet.

8. Cryptopunk #4156

Already, it seems that CryptoPunks hold a special place in the hearts of NFT collectors. This punk headband sold for $10.26 million after collector Punk4156 decided to sell his collection.

7. Tpunk #3442

This one-of-a-kind wildcard-like NFT was purchased for $10.5 million by Tron co-founder Justin Sun. This is a unique collection as TPunks don’t usually sell these kinds of NFTs.

6. Alien cryptopunk #7523

Due to the rarity of Alien CryptoPunk in the market, Alien CryptoPunk #7523 has moved up to sixth place. This Covid Alien was sold for $11.75 million to Shalom McKenzie, a shareholder in DraftKings (NASDAQ:).

5. Cryptopunk #5822

Of the 10,000 punks available, CryptoPunk #5822 is one of a series of extremely rare alien titles, of which only 9 are known to exist. Deepak Tapliyal, CEO of Chain, purchased the NFT for $23.7 million.

4. HUMAN

This NFT sold at Christie’s for $28.9 million. A smart contract has been built into HUMAN ONE, which allows Beeple to maintain remote control over the content presented.

3. Clock

The Clock NFT, which sold for $52.7 million, is part of a larger collection of NFTs called Censored that contains over 29,000 tokenized messages from the project’s buyers. Proceeds from this series went to pro-freedom organizations.

2. First 5000 days

This digital art by Mike “Beeple” broke free with the $69.3 million sale of this NFT. The NFT is a collage of 5,000 photographs taken one per day for more than thirteen years, titled “Every Day: The First 5,000 Days”.

1. Merge

“The Merge” comes out on top. It was produced by renowned digital artist Pak and sold for approximately $92 million by 28,983 members who contributed a total of 312,000 shares, each of which is an NFT.

It will be interesting to see who breaks the chart and gets into the top 10 for buying the most expensive digital assets. It would be interesting to see who advocates the utility and public side of NFTs.
